Something Old and Something New: Illustrating Spousal Ceremonies in "Religious Ceremonies of the Known World"

"Religious Ceremonies of the Known World" at Van Wylen Library

Keith Miller gifted the Dutch translation (1727-1738) of Religious Ceremonies of the Known World to Van Wylen Library at Hope College (Holland, Michigan) in the summer of 2019. The book was part of a larger gift of four Dutch books related to exploration, all originally owned at some point by Herman Miller, the grandfather of Keith Miller. No one is sure about the provenance of the books before they came into the hands of the Millers. Kelly Jacobsma, Dean of the Library at Van Wylen, believes the books were at one point owned by a single individual, who must have been quite wealthy as all the books would have been very expensive to own. All four books add great richness to Van Wylen Library’s Rare Books collection, and we are very grateful for this generous gift!
Religious Ceremonies of the Known World may be viewed in the library’s Rare Books Room, on the lower level of Van Wylen Library at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
